Boarding
Queen Ethelburga’s welcome students wishing to board from Year 3 to Year 13 with weekly and full boarding options. Our youngest boarders have their own boarding house specially designed for younger people, which won the BSA Best Refurbishment Award 2024. They also have their own boarding staff that are specifically trained for primary age children. As children move up through the school, they are given more independence and more facilities within their rooms. Our Soxth Formers have their own separate boarding house, common rooms, and dining area.
Being a boarder at QE gives you opportunities beyond the ordinary. Whether that is in the field of academia, in the clubs that you choose, in the trips you attend or in the friends that you make, your experiences will shape your life. There is no fixed pathway that they must follow, they are guided and supported as they find the route that suits them best.
Student wellbeing is of the utmost importance and Forces boarders can seek support from specialist Forces Liaison Officers as well as Peer Mentors, Pastoral Coordinators, academic and boarding staff, School Counsellor, onsite GP and nurses and the Independent Listener who is separate from all areas of the school. The school is known for its excellent boarding and pastoral care and was a Muddy Stilettos Finalist in Pastoral Care.

Welcome to Queen Ethelburga's

Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate
Academically, the school offers a choice of QE College and QE Faculty for post 14 students. This enables students to select the highly focused academic curriculum of GCSE, A level and EPQ (in the College) or a more varied diet of academic, creative and practical options (in the Faculty), including GCSE, A level and BTEC qualifications. QE College is currently ranked the Sunday Times Top School in the North for Academic Performance and QE Faculty won the ISA Senior School of the Year 2024. In 2024, both schools combined achieved 78% A*/A at A Level, 73% Distinction in BTECs and 62% grades 7-9 in GCSEs.
Students in both senior schools access strong university courses across a very wide range of subjects, with 95% moving onto higher education, and 84% of College students and 89% of Faculty students achieving their first choice university. The exceptional co-curricular programme is designed to help students develop their talents to a high level across a range of activities and enable students to gain the soft skills and confidence that will allow them to be highly successful in their future lives. The school motto: ‘to be the best that I can with the gifts that I have’ is at the centre of all that Queen Ethelburga’s tries to achieve by offering a varied, inspiring and aspirational range of academic and co-curricular opportunities to its diverse student population.
