Kingswood School

Kingswood has a long history of supporting Forces and FCDO families and understands the particular needs of families who move around or spend time away from home. Our ethos of service, resilience and global perspective is rooted in our Methodist foundation and reflected in the way we care for pupils. Staff with Forces backgrounds also bring their own experience to the school community.

We want pupils to feel at home at Kingswood, while giving them the space and encouragement to find their own interests, build confidence and develop their talents.

Academic achievement is important, but so is helping pupils become confident, thoughtful and capable young people. We encourage them to take responsibility, support others and develop the skills they will need beyond school.

Pastoral care is a big part of life at Kingswood. We get to know our pupils as individuals and support their academic and social development. This is particularly important for children joining from another school, moving to a new area or spending time away from their families.

Kingswood offers full, weekly, flexi and occasional boarding from Year 7, giving Forces families flexibility depending on their circumstances. Boarders are very much part of the wider school community, with a full programme of sport, activities, trips and social events alongside their academic studies.

Kingswood offers a CEA discount for Forces families, helping to make boarding more accessible.

Boarding

Our offer for Forces and FCDO families is one of the most generous amongst UK independent schools – those in receipt of the Continuity of Education Allowance pay only 10% of the full boarding fees.

From cosy film and pizza evenings on Fridays, to lively sports fixtures and trips to Bath on Saturdays, followed by an exciting range of Sunday outings, there's alwas plenty going on for our boarders.

Junior boarders (Years 7 and 8) live in Beaconfield House, a cosy home for around 30 children, supported by house parents Mr and Mrs Newbould, Assistant House Parent Miss Becconsall, tutors, and Year 12 prefects. Junior boarders join the main school day in Westwood House and attend lessons alongside day pupils, then at 5:30 pm, they return to Beaconfield.

From Year 9 onwards, both day and boarding pupils join one of the Senior Houses, where they stay right through their GCSE and A-level years. These houses are the heart of school life, a place to relax and form friendships.
